Press release

"Incontri" (encounters) is the title of the collective exhibition by Giorgio Sovana, Bruno Bordoli and Mauro Valsangiacomo hosted by Civico Museo Parisi Valle di Maccagno from February 17 to April 1, 2018.
This art exhibition, curated by Clara Castaldo, will be inaugurated on Saturday, February 17 and it will mark the beginning of the celebrations for the twentieth anniversary of the Museum of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca.
Mayor Fabio Passera explains: "2018 will be a special year for the Civic Museum of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca, a year to remember with joy. We will celebrate our first twenty years since the beginning of this incredible experience. But it’s not time for memories, yet: it’s time for projects, for the thousands of ideas that run through our heads while we look for another way to pleasantly surprise the public. Therefore, yet another year of work is in store for us, which starts with this collective exhibition that sees Giorgio Sovana, Bruno Bordoli and Mauro Valsangiacomo as protagonists. Three very different artists who share the same inner research, rich in ideas and meanings, three ways of looking at reality so diverse as to become almost complementary.
This diversity will be a recurrent characteristic of the exhibitions we are going to present during the next twelve months. Clara Castaldo ( my irreplaceable guide when imagining the future to then turn it into reality) and I are planning a series of events that will include as many artists as possible. Even the title of the exhibition that we are about to inaugurate seems particularly apt. We had originally chosen the title "Norm, exception and crucial encounters". That title struck me right away as the perfect description of the underlying theme that has driven our museum since it first opened. It may seem normal to design a new experience every time; however, sooner or later you inevitably find yourself dealing with a number of exceptions. Above all, though, what stays with you is the encounters, and not necessarily only the crucial ones – quite the opposite, in fact. Every time we start all over again, throwing away what we did, and looking with more and more energy for something that has yet to happen. Finally, we choose the definitive title: "Incontri" (Encounters) as a tribute to those encounters that are determinant, conditioning and capable of orienting you and make you reflect and think of new hypotheses and solutions ".

"The works we present today - explains Clara Castaldo - are nourished by traces, signs, footprints: small segments, clues, hints rather than cumbersome presences. I feel that for the three artists the action of working goes way beyond the mere grasping the residue of visions. That is not enough to capture the truth they seek, for their art is never mere aesthetic pleasure. The figures, the human and vegetal shapes, mute presences, thin but strong, are the result of a personal perception: acting, as well as creative thinking, are critical actions towards the need for life, a continuous discovery that is well worth pursuing. Art, in the end, always presents itself as a question, and a question can never be "finished", it is never perfect. It seems that Bordoli, Sovana and Valsangiacomo strive to have absolute audacity in facing reality, with a spontaneous respect for matter, consistently needing to impress on the surface its hidden divisions, thus generating an indescribable intimacy, an unmistakable sign of existence, a sincere trace of a relationship with our world’s life ".
